How to Diagnose Hypertensive NephropathyHigh blood pressure can cause damage to many organs, especially the kidney. Hypertensive Nephropathy is a kind of kidney disease caused by high blood pressure. People have high blood pressure, especially chronic high blood pressure, should keep an eye on their kidney function as they have higher risk of getting Hypertensive Nephropathy. How to diagnose Hypertensive Nephropathy? People with high blood pressure should notice these symptoms as indicators of Hypertensive Nephropathy.

Frequent urination at night

Generally, this is an early symptom of kidney damage. More exactly, high blood pressure causes kidney ischemia. And kidney tubules are more sensitive than glomeruli, so kidney tubules suffer damage earlier than glomeruli. The major function of kidney tubules is reabsorption. When reabsorption reduces, patients will have frequent urination at night.

Foamy urine

If patients find their urine present foamy, it proves protein leaking in the urine. That means high blood damage has caused damage to patients’ glomeruli that fail to conduct filter function. The amount of protein in patients’ urine could be an index to the damage of kidney.

Swelling or edema

Swelling usually firstly occurs to feet and ankles, around the eyelid, and with the disease progression, even develops to the whole body. Severe swelling is always accompanied with decreased urine volume, high blood pressure and mild azotemia.

In addition to these symptoms, some tests also can help patients confirm their diagnosis.

1. Urine microalbumin test

2. Serum creatinine test

3. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) test

As mentioned above, when kidney suffers damage, protein will present in urine and metabolic waste will leave in blood. These tests all can help to check the metabolic waste in the blood, which can be used as standards to examine the kidney function.

People who have chronic high blood pressure should be cautious of these symptoms as they occur. If necessary, take some tests to confirm your suspicion. Or you can contact us, our doctor will give you professional help.
